ESOL Celebration |
| |
Wirral Change once again hosted a celebration of partnership working to deliver English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes to diverse communities of Wirral. This year’s celebration was organised by the staff and volunteers of Wirral Change, led by Employment Outreach Worker Emilia Korzeniecka, and was held at Wirral Change’s new home at St Laurence’s School, Birkenhead.
The event was a great success, with a party atmosphere filling the school hall where refreshments were served before and after the awards ceremony and people from all communities met and networked.
The ceremony was introduced by Clint Agard, the Chief Executive Officer of Wirral Change and the guest speaker was Pauline Cocker, a Director of our organisation, who paid tribute to the students, to Wirral Council, the tutors of Wirral Met College, the SureStart crèche staff and the staff of Wirral Change, whose collective hard work has led to another successful year for ESOL. Pauline also expressed a hope that future funding will allow ESOL to continue.
Also present as special guests were Councillors Phil Davies and Jean Stapleton.
Following the speeches, the students were presented with their certificates and gifts, before a very lively photo session took place!
Wirral Change would once again like to thank Wirral Met College, Wirral Council, SureStart and all partners who have worked together to make ESOL possible in 2010-2011. Thanks to this partnership working, Wirral Change has continued to gain the trust of communities and to break down language barriers to employment and training. It is hoped that the funding situation will allow this, the core business of Wirral Change to continue long into the future. |

Wirral Change CEO honoured at Social Change Awards |
| |
The Social Change Awards awarded by the Directory of Social Change (DSC) celebrate the passionate individuals and effective organisations committed to making a positive impact on society. This change can come about through the everyday actions of one individual, many people pulling together, a local company that cares about their wider community or the thoughtful investment of resources.
At the national Social Change Awards Ceremony which took place on Thursday 25 November 2010 at DSC's Charity Centre in Central London, Clint Agard, Chief Executive Officer of Wirral Change was runner-up for the Influencer Award.
This award is solely for individuals that really know which buttons to press to make things happen - from campaigning for a change in law to bringing together different groups to achieve what might have seemed impossible. DSC wants to acknowledge the determination and hard work required to communicate clearly, put forth a persuasive argument and win people over to bring about positive change. Clint Agard has done all of this in building Wirral Change from a small project into the busy and successful voluntary organisation it is today. He would like to thank all Directors, partners and staff of Wirral Change who voted for him and would also like to thank them for their own influence in bringing Wirral Change to its present level of success in serving the disadvantaged communities of Merseyside.

ESOL Celebration
|
| |
Wirral Change hosted today's celebration of the success of partnership working to deliver ESOL English language classes to the Black and Racial Minority community of Wirral. The event was held at the Lauries Centre and was attended by the Mayor of Wirral; Councillors Phil Davies and Jean Stapleton; and representatives of Wirral Metropolitan College, SureStart and other partner organisations who have worked with Wirral Change to make the success of ESOL possible. Following lunch and a few words from the visiting dignitaries and representatives - and from the students themselves - certificates were presented to those who have attended ESOL classes this year. The event was a great success and showed how Wirral organisations continue to work together to break down barriers to employment and training for members of the community - as well as how much students from the community have themselves achieved in the last year. |

International Women's Day |

International Women's Day is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world; it is commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. When women on all continents, often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate their Day, they can look back to a tradition that represents at least nine decades of struggle for equality, justice, peace and development.
This year's Women's Day was held on Tuesday 3 March and some photos can be seen above. The day included representatives from local community organisations; performances of dance, drama and music from many cultural backgrounds; and a visit from the Mayoress of Wirral. Wirral Change was delighted to see so many local BRM communities come together to celebrate the occasion.
For details of future Women's Days and similar events, please contact Wirral Change.
